The duration of residence permits for studies is short (maximum one year). Students therefore have to apply for renewal of their permit to the cantonal migration authority (in Geneva, the OCPM). The authorities will check whether the conditions for issuing a permit are still being met and whether the purpose of the stay has already been achieved.

You must pay close attention to renewal deadlines.
In order to renew a residence permit for studies, you need to send Form E to the OCPM.
This form must be submitted to the OCPM no later than 15 days before the expiry of the permit as indicated on the Office’s website.
